Together with Bogdan Yankiv, a children’s psychologist in Lviv, we organized a training session, where we discussed and developed the following topics: “Conflictology”, “Hormonal Behavior”, “Team Therapy”. It was very interesting and effective both for the team and for the organizers. Club Lumière develops!

French language camp in the Carpathians has prepared a summer program «À vous de Jouer». This is not ordinary summer camp, this is a new format of thematic holidays. This is not the standard classes, this is a new concept of learning French. This is not simply youth leaders, this is a new generation of animators. This is not a formal acquaintanceship, this is a cosy and friendly atmosphere.

French language camp Club Lumière in the Atlantic Pyrenees! We are heading southwest of France, to the region of French Aquitaine, where you can visit many attractions, including monuments of the Basques. On the west side opens access to the Atlantic. On the south, the Pyrenees are the natural border with Spain. Immersion in the language environment, French teachers and animators, accommodation in the tourist center Relais du Lys, outings, hiking in the mountains, acquaintance with the traditions and culture of the Basques and, as always, a visit to Paris.

The French language camp Club Lumière has introduced the concept of the practical use of the acquired competencies in French in real-life situations in France into its new program “The linguistic survival strategy. Pyrenees”. Overcoming the language barrier, natural language communication, the ability to navigate the “French reality” – these are the main tasks of the new project of the French language camp Club Lumière.

Within the framework of the “Journée de la Francophonie” in Ukraine, a video contest was held “Le français, ça sert à quoi?”. The organizers were the French Institute in Ukraine, Ambassade de France en Ukraine, Ambassade de Suisse en Ukraine, Ambassade de Moldavie en Ukraine. The French camp Club Lumière, had the honor to support the participants, the creative French-speaking youth of Ukraine, by giving a ticket to the summer program of Club Lumière “À Vous de Jouer”. The presentation of prizes to the laureates of the competition was held at the Institute of Philology of Kyiv National University of Taras Shevchenko. Once again we congratulate all the participants, laureates, organizers. And we are waiting for the student of the “Logos” school in Zaporozhye Eduard Boytsev in July 2019 in our camp.

What can you learn in 2 weeks in a language camp? Can there be a positive effect in such a short time? Children often do not show tangible results in language study during 9 months at the school, and here they offer the study, when the child came to rest. I do not understand!!!

But for the team of the French language camp Club Lumière is all clear and we can “unscramble all”.

So, it must be said that the main goal of the team is to develop children’s motivation to learn French and to actively use what they already know. To do this, our team uses game methods, the technique of active communication with the natives, introduces the linguistic component in almost all activities, master classes, creative workshops, sports events and sightseeing visits.

A special focus lies on the positive emotions associated with the introduction to the French culture, the nuances of the French language and our French teachers. It’s no secret that the development of motivation is directly related to the atmosphere created in the group, with creativity in the learning process, with an understanding of the child’s interest, with the personality of the teacher or animator.

Having understood the child and having found the so-called approach to the child, having managed to interest him with the help of various creative and “understandable” activities for the child, we achieve the results that reach the level of friendly relations between adults and children. Of course, this gives the same development of motivation that we set as our goal.

The happiness is somewhere between freedom and discipline.

Outdoor activities and new knowledge

All the time in the camp classes and classes? All the time in the camp French and French? Are there any excursions? And hiking in the Carpathians? A visit to the region?

Yes, yes, yes! There is no reason to worry! The team of the French language camp Club Lumière makes the program of activities in such a way that everybody can have time and energy. Of course, our program of the French camp in the Carpathians would be incomplete and not logical without the beautiful landscapes of the Carpathians, without the extreme waters of mountain rivers, without local traditions and local people very open.

In preparing the program, our team is trying to find interesting places to visit, and not standard tourist objects, exciting sports activities that are impossible to find in urban settings, necessarily relates to a specific topic and sets certain pedagogical or educational goals.

We organize the ecological hikes, in which we not only get acquainted with the flora and fauna of the region, but also but also engaged in clearing and settlement of river banks in the Carpathians. We go to the ethno excursions, in which we will not only entertain, but also become actively acquainted with local traditions. During sports events, we try to learn to children the concept and skills of team support, friendship and a sense of patriotism.

The main thing is that after the events we hold discussions with a group where children share not only their emotions and impressions, but also, with the help of our animators, pay attention to the tasks that the team set before the event. Fidbeck is our All!

Clip makers, video bloggers, screenwriters, soundtrack, teaser??? For someone, these words are not yet understood, but not for the generation Z! They are completely part of the vocabulary of daily communication among young people. In order to be on the “one wave” with the youth it is necessary to understand the nuances of slang!

The team of the French language camp Club Lumière actively uses the work with video. As usual, it is necessary to set pedagogical and linguistic goals in this work.

So, we start with the search for ideas for the clips, ” short films”, advertising clips, news. “Brainstorming” in the group gives a lot of interesting ideas and an approximate implementation plan.

The stage of script writing, character development and the distribution of roles in the “cinematic team” occupies a special place. It is here that the linguistic component is actively introduced: the description of the characters, the definition of the place of action, the preparation of dialogues, the work in groups. At this stage our teachers from France are very active. It must be said that there is clearly an informal communication with native speakers, joint activities, natural communication.

We turn to shoot. Due to the presence of the necessary equipment in the camp, as well as smartphones in children, the shooting process is conducted in an atmosphere of teamwork. The concepts of “background”, “foreground”, “change of frame priorities”, etc. are worked out. Children are not afraid to take several takes for each scene, since after the shooting time of editing the video material comes.

Using various editing programs, this process passes quickly and does not cause any special difficulties. Especially our animators are always there and take the initiative in their own hands, helping children understand the “tricks” of the editing work.

And, probably, the most fun step of creating a video, the stage of scoring. Work with pronunciation, with intonation, with imitation of voice, with musical accompaniment.

The video is ready! You can view and make some corrections and changes in editing and scoring, if necessary. We save in the required format and are preparing to present it at the evening show for the whole camp.

At first glance, the whole process of working with creating a video can seem long and routine. However, children and animators become one cohesive team, absorbed in this work, that, sometimes, they do not notice how time passed and there is already a result.

So, the motor! We shoot! Film, film, film!

Do you like theater? How does the theater begin? Is it possible to combine theater and the study of the French language? Do we need to invite a theater director to work with children?

The team of the French language camp Club Lumière copes well with the theatrical component in working with children and can suggest some linguistic theatrical exercises for the language camp.

It must be said that our animators took a special “French by Theater” course with theater professionals and trainers. In the theatrical exercises for camp, we use the motivation and positive emotions, as we have already said, hugely boost to the natural perception of educational material and reveal the creative abilities of children. Here are some areas where you can work using theatrical exercises: pronunciation (tongue twisters, exercise “mirror of pronunciation”), intonation (exercise “mood recipe”), trust in the partner (exercise “mirror”, exercise “conflict”), development of history (exercise “story of statue”, exercise “conversation with an alien”). In fact, the exercises are very many and very diverse, it all depends on what you set as the goal.

HISTORY OF THE STATUE

OBJECTIVES: acting skills, scenario development

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: from 10

DESCRIPTION: One of the participants enters the center and creates a “frozen statue”, showing a situation, emotion, action, etc. The next participant joins the first, continuing, in his opinion, the story of the “frozen statue.” The first participant leaves the center and returns to the others. And so one by one. Participation of the whole group is desirable. The participant fixes his version of the continuation for a few seconds before the previous participant leaves the statue composition.

NOTES: It is necessary to give participants a suggestion about the “intelligibility” of their message. This will give a more conscious approach to versions of the continuation of history. This activity can be carried out at the moment when the dynamics of the group fall. Good mood and laughter are guaranteed.

RECIPE OF MOOD

OBJECTIVES: “unlocking”, linguistic content, work with intonation

DURATION: 15 minutes

DESCRIPTION: The group is divided into small equal teams. Each team receives the same text of the recipe, which the team members should read with a certain feeling (love, fear, sadness, fun, boredom, etc.). The whole text of the recipe is distributed among the team members. After 5 minutes of preparation, each team reads aloud their version of the “mood recipe”. Teams should guess what feelings the serving team expresses.

NOTES: This exercise is desirable to perform with a clear exaggeration of the demonstration of feelings. It is necessary to pay attention to that each exercise had a finite tangible result. A theater studio led to the presentation of a small play, a sketch, skits or pantomime.

What is a communicative technique? How to introduce gaming techniques into the teaching of a foreign language? And how do we understand the French teacher native speaker? And anyway, what lessons in the summer, on vacation?

The team of language French camp Club Lumière knows how to build the learning process in the camp and combine a pleasant vacation with a useful linguistic acquaintance.

First of all, we offer the program and atmosphere of the summer thematic children’s holiday with a core component – French language. All activities, all classes, all communication, all trips and hiking, all held in French.

The first half of the day is given to French lessons, in which the French teacher takes the initiative and active mentoring, but in tandem with the Ukrainian French-speaking animator. In the afternoon, during the master classes, events, competitions, creative workshops, the status of our tandems change, where the tone is set by the Ukrainian animator. But, it must say that the program is built in such a way that the native speaker is in constant communication and contact with children, regardless of his status.

Of course, we and our French teachers work based on our concept of gaming techniques in teaching French. Any game, and even more so, having clearly set pedagogical goals, causes children to have certain, more often positive, emotions. This is the “lever” that promotes progressive perception and memorization of vocabulary, intonation, pronunciation, and also generates and develops interest to the culture of the country of studied language.

So, another linguistic “trick” of the Club Lumière.

A SENTENCE IN MOTION

OBJECTIVES: Unblocking language, language acquisition

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: from 10 to 20

PROCEDURE: Participants are divided into 2 groups. One of the groups comes out. In the other group each receives one word of a sentence. Each participant must remember this word and repeat it aloud as they move. The second group returns, listens and has to reconstruct the sentence.

NOTES: The length and difficulty of the sentences must be adapted to the linguistic level of the group.

Linguistic games can be more “academic”, which makes it possible for children, in the format of a language camp, to receive not only verbal, but also written competences and the ability to express their thoughts in French. The application of necessary activities is regulated by our French teachers and Ukrainian francophone animators, respectively, the dynamics and needs of the group.
